Unseen Amsterdam 2018 presents a rich and varied programme for visitors to engage with contemporary photography. To give some insights ahead of the event this September, we’ll be using this new feature to shed light on some of our most exciting programme elements.
First up is a headlining element of our exhibitions programme. Situated around the grounds of the Westergasterrein, four separate exhibitions explore a spectrum of thought-provoking themes, including an exhibition by Futures, the newest photography platform that combines the talent programmes of leading photography institutions across Europe.
In line with Unseen’s ethos, Futures aims to aid emerging photographers at the very start of their careers — granting them access to an unprecedented network of professionals, markets and audiences. Futures currently consists of ten founding members: the British Journal of Photography (UK), CAMERA (IT), Hyères Festival (FR), FOMU (BE), Fotofestiwal Lodz (PL), PHotoESPAÑA (ES), PhotoIreland (IR), Photo Romania Festival (RO), Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center (HU) and Triennial of Photography Hamburg (DE).
For the Futures exhibition, ten emerging talents have been selected to present their work from a longlist of over sixty artists. Unseen showcases ten emerging talents from Futures, celebrating the diversity of photographic approaches and stories that are key to the platforms' aim. Visitors are invited to explore the grounds of the Machinegebouw, and learn more about these exceptional works and the young artists behind them.
The sixty artists from the long list are also highlighted in various programme elements – including a separate onsite project, moderated talks at the Unseen Living Room and participation in ING Unseen Talent Award’s longlist.
The full programme will be announced soon.
